Cold Weather and Skin Heath

The cold weather can greatly compromise skin health. During cold winter months exposing our skin to outside windy weather and indoor heating triggers such conditions as dryness and the appearance of itchy, reddish patches.

It’s not just you!

Low humidity may exacerbate many skin conditions, and even people who have healthy skin may see their skin becoming dehydrated, easily irritated, flaky, dry, and may make fine lines and wrinkles more noticeable. Below are some tips to save you and your skin during these harsh winter weather patterns.

  • During winter months it is necessary to moisturize your skin daily. It is recommended to switch to heavier creams when it is cold

  • Protect your face from the wind and cold

  • Cleanse your skin with the gentle non-irritating soap and lukewarm water

  • Use lip balm regularly

  • For the face use sun protection with SPF 30 and above even in a cloudy weather

  • Adding room humidifiers can help with passive moisturizing

Consult your doctor if your skin is persistently dry, scaling, itching, or has rashes
